Many independent physicians today have turned to employment with local hospitals to provide financial security in the changing health care market, and hospitals have recognized that employing physicians can secure specialty care in their communities.
However, while employment is a versatile model, a contract alone does not guarantee a successful arrangement. Our research indicates that high-performing groups tend to exhibit 15 core attributes that are replicable in a variety of structural and demographic settings, and it highlights community hospitals that have successfully implemented these attributes.
